Sewage adds to Ganga filth December 21, 2007
Posted by Kanpur Directory in : Kanpur News , add a commentKANPUR: Even as the state government has released orders for the sealing of 32 more Kanpur-based tanneries for polluting the Ganga, none is bothered about stopping the domestic sewage discharge into the holy river.
In the wake of forthcoming Magh mela in Allahabad, urban development secretary SR Lakha on Wednesday directed agencies concerned to take effective measures to stop pollutants from being discharged into the Ganga. Now, the district administration of Kanpur and the regional office of the UP Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) have formed committees which will seal the Kanpur-based tanneries on December 24. But nobody is bothered about initiating steps for checking the discharge of untreated domestic sewage into the Ganga. This trend may continue even during Magh mela starting from January 14 to Mahashivratri in March. (more…)

The lawns of a swanky hotel were converted into a beautiful wedding venue. It was fascinating to see beautiful women in saris and designer attires and handsome men in suits and sherwanis.
While Ramesh and his brother Anil Nankani played the perfect hosts, Bhawana’s cousins Jyotsna Lakhwani and Suchita Nankani along with mother Varsha took good care of the women brigade. (more…)
Halloween party in Kanpur December 1, 2007

However times have changed, in many areas it is no longer practiced as a tradition.
But recently in the city the tradition was revived again, by Rajeev Mehrotra, president of a prominent city-based club who organised a spooky……..Halloween party.
And what a scary night it was, filled with frightening spectacle of floating ghosts, dead body protruding out of grave, skeletons hanging upside down, all that which could make you go hysterical. (more…)
A lavish engagement party in Kanpur December 1, 2007
Posted by Kanpur Directory in : Kanpur News , add a commentMazaa, masti and total dhamaal were the words that best described the engagement party of Sumit and Tanvi Bhatia. And what a lavish bash it was!
Held at a plush city-based party lawn, the venue was richly decorated with colourful twinkling lights and beautiful flowers and was packed with party-hearty people.
Raja and Mamta Bhatia, Bhaiya and Bhabhi of Tanvi, played the gracious host of the evening.
What was really appreciated by one and all was that Vijay Bhatia and Sushma, parents of Sumit, also provided a helping hand to Tanvi’s family in making arrangements at the do.
Soon the golden momentum arrived and Sumit and Tanvi exchanged rings amidst lots of cheer.

Replica of Qutub iron-pillar to be installed in IIT Kanpur December 1, 2007
Posted by Kanpur Directory in : Kanpur News , add a commentKanpur (PTI): A replica of the famous iron pillar located in the magnificent Qutub Minar complex in Delhi is going to be installed at the IIT campus here.
The replica is being built by the Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai, Assistant Registrar of IIT Kanpur K V Satyamurthy told PTI.
“The 7.5 metre tall model will be made with plastic and fiber over a steel frame,” Satyamurthy said.
Constructed under the patronage of the National Council of Science Museum, the pillar will be inaugurated on December 8 during an International Conference hosted by the Metallurgy Department of the premier educational institution.
A similar model of the pillar will also be installed at the Nehru Science Centre complex, he said.
